As
the pandemic takes a backseat and enterprises start opening up with big plans,
technology companies brace for another challenge—shortage of skilled manpower.
According to a report, at present, nearly 75% of technology companies are
facing a difficulty in finding candidates with the right kind of skills.
The most
in-demand skills that tech companies are looking for in employees are data
analytics, AI and ML and digital project management, along with soft skills,
among others. The key soft skills in demand are communication, critical
thinking and problem-solving. To recruit, most employers currently want to hire
skilled manpower and not freshers. Candidates who can be production ready
resources from the day of joining. Companies, in fact, look to hire apprentices
from through their learning partners like ourselves through HIR TRAIN AND
DEPLOY model where the candidates are selected by the vendor partner through
company defined process, the candidate is then trained on the right skill set
required for the hiring position and once the candidate completes the skill
training successfully, he/she is absorbed on the company payroles.
Experts say
that, since finding candidates with the right skills is becoming more difficult
by the day, while competition for qualified candidates also grows,
organizations will have to expand their pipelines for recruitment .Also, there
will be a rise in talent acquisition cost, too, because organizations have to
pay more as bonus and other incentives to attract skilled manpower. Thus, acquiring the right skill sets becomes important
for job security.
Here are a few skill sets that
will help candidates get good jobs in the IT sector…
Data analytics
Even if
automation helps networks to run by themselves, companies still need people
with such skills as data science and data analytics to work on the algorithms
to run the networks better. Data science is also in great demand. According to
the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, demand for data science skills will drive an
over 24% rise in employment over the next three-four years. Individuals seeking
jobs in the cyber security field should consider getting certified or pursuing
on-the-job training in data analytics. At present, knowing how to manipulate
big data sets is more valuable to employers than extensive knowledge in
installing firewalls.
ML and AI
Machine
Learning (ML) skills, as well as programming Artificial Intelligence (AI),
offer a fast track to the cyber security jobs. Cyber security experts trained
in ML to recognize and take action on cyber threats are in high demand
nowadays. A report says AI is likely to eliminate nearly 2 million jobs by this
year, but it will, at the same time, create about 2.5 million others. The best
candidates for ML cyber security jobs should have strong mathematics skills and
interest in puzzles. There are plenty of online and traditional educational
programs to acquire ML skills.
Digital Project Management
Project
management is not only meant for tech companies, but is an important aspect for
developing digital products and services in timely and cost-effective ways. The
understanding of a variety of methodologies, such as Agile and Scrum will stand
out in a resumé. Digital Project Managers should also have comprehensive
knowledge of how these projects are developed—from ideation to trials to the
final product or service.
Important Soft Skills
The best
security professionals today must have more than just technical skills. Besides
being able to analyze anomalies and patterns in networks, they should have
great communication skills to explain what a particular data means to
stakeholders and decision makers. Additionally, since most cyber security
positions involve protecting sensitive data, candidates have to show that they
are trustworthy and have strong critical thinking, as well as problem-solving
skills and can be calm while facing challenging situations.
